The word Grotesque often conjures up imagery of great disgust, & mystery, a kind of sadistic intrigue. The term was first used typographically to describe letterforms void of serifs, which at the time of their conception were thought of as extremely ugly by most people. In modern times grotesque (sans-serif) typefaces are the most commonly used in digital publishing. This proved to me the best creations often appear weird at the time but in hindsight there would have been no innovation if no one went against the grain, trying something new despite the judgement of others
